AVMF Disaster Relief and Reimbursement Grants help animals and those that care for them following devastating events. Disaster grants can cover the costs of veterinary charitable medical care and boarding for animals during these times.
Disaster response during Hurricane Katrina
On the 18th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we asked Dr. Heather Case to share her experience as a member of the AVMF-supported Veterinary Medical Assistance Team (VMAT) that responded to the overwhelming need for immediate veterinary care. Dr. Case’s compelling story explains why supporting these highly-trained first responders through the AVMF Disaster relief program is more impactful than acting on the desire to help on-site.
