Hello! Happy Spring to you all!

We are emailing to inform you of a backorder problem we are experiencing in the vet community. The company that we have used for the dog vaccine, Leptospirosis, is experiencing a shortage of the vaccines. In the meantime, we have contacted another vaccine manufacturer to provide Leptospirosis vaccines to our hospital.

THIS ONLY AFFECTS DOGS THAT ARE DUE FOR THEIR ANNUAL BOOSTER OR HAVE STARTED THE TWO-PART SERIES AND NOT RECEIVED THE BOOSTER YET.

Please read the information below to see how we plan to overcome the vaccine shortage.

About Leptospirosis

The Leptospirosis vaccine for dogs protects them against a bacteria, leptospira, that is often found in wildlife urine and found in stagnant water (aka rain puddles and lakes).

If your dog contracts this disease, it can be fatal, as it causes kidney failure.

We highly recommend this vaccine for your dog because it is
zoonotic. This means that you can contract this fatal disease from your dog. This is why it is very important to administer the Leptospirosis vaccine to your dog on time.
More from the CDC can be read here

If your dog has not received the leptospirosis vaccine before, it is a two-part series. Your dog will receive the initial vaccine and get a booster between 2 and 6 weeks later. At that time, the vaccine will be effective against Leptospirosis for one year. To keep your dog protected, it's important to vaccinate them annually, which will be one year from the date your pet had their second leptospirosis series.

It is important to note that the Leptospirosis vaccines from Boehringer Ingelheim, our normal supplier, are not interchangeable with the vaccines from Zoetis, the company we are relying on for replacement vaccines.

This will only affect dogs who have recently started or are planning to start the vaccination series soon. Depending on which vaccine your pet has received, it may require an extra dose than the usual two-part series. We may have to restart the two-part series to ensure they are protected.

Please read the information below and find which situation applies to you and your pet.

We have some instructions to help us make sure your dog is vaccinated appropriately and up to date!

Please review the facts about Leptospirosis and let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or interest in vaccinating your dog for this disease! Our phone number and email address are listed at the bottom of this email.

Please call or email when your dog is due for their booster vaccine to schedule an appointment. It is safe for your dog to receive the Leptospirosis vaccine from either vaccine manufacturer.  Please ensure that your client information is up-to-date with our hospital. This will enable us to send you a vaccination reminder when your pet's annual booster vaccine is approaching.

Please call or email us to set up a plan for your dog to receive the booster vaccine. The plan may be to schedule the booster vaccine closer to the 6-week mark from the initial vaccine. Or we may need to administer an extra booster (and restart the series). This would occur if your pet started with one vaccine manufacturer and is unable to get a booster with the same vaccine manufacturer. In this case, the series would need to be restarted with the other vaccine manufacturer.

There will be no additional cost for those who need to restart the series. The vaccine manufacturer will cover the additional cost if your dog needs to restart the series. You will only be required to cover the normal vaccination cost of the two-part series.

We appreciate your patience in working with us to resolve this issue. We know this can be overwhelming, and we want you to know that we are here to answer your questions and concerns. We will walk you through the process of keeping your pet up to date and on track with the Leptospirosis vaccine. If you need to contact us about your pet, please call us at
